NANA BODUA AKORDOR (DIRECTOR-GENERAL)

He is a Ghanaian by birth and lives in Ghana. He was born in the Eastern Region of Ghana, and grew up in the Central, Volta and Greater Accra Regions of the Republic of Ghana. He has been educated to a Higher National Diploma level in Business Accounting. In the field of technology, he has a diploma in Computer Software and holds a certificate in Broadcasting Journalism in the media.

Sometime in 2001, after his senior high school education, he traveled to the country of Benin to study their culture, norms and values to advance his knowledge of different ways of living due to his cultural and religious ideology. He has worked with quite a number of establishments involving management issues including Land Administration and Property Consultancy firm, acting in a capacity as Business Advisor and Accounting Personnel. With his interpersonal skills, customer and business oriented, he was appointed as the Planning & Development Director by a Non-governmental Organization to help in the planning of programs and its subsequent development. He is a fervent and empathetic young person with much affection for community development. Leading to achieve the mission of this body is his role as the leader and founder of the organization. “Building churches in our hearts” have been his words.

RACHEL LYNN KAY (LIAISON OFFICER)

She is an American female and has a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, with her LBS1 certificate.  She has extensive medical background as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, and in Phlebotomy. She currently teaches 3rd grade special education in Chicago, IL.  She has volunteered her whole life, helping those in need and loving every moment of it. 

She traveled to Ghana in the summer of 2007 and while she was here, experienced everything about Ghanaian life and also thought of many ways to improve the volunteer experience.  She believes with honesty and open minds on both sides of the volunteer experience, we can all achieve the goal of making life a little better.  She will be your mentor, your referee, and your link to the western world while you are volunteering.  She will be available by phone or e-mail, anytime. Her role is to Liaise between the organization, volunteers and partner firms. She is also a co-founder.

DESMOND NANA YAW AKORDOR (EVENTS CO-ORDINATOR)

He is a Ghanaian born with wonderful and enterprising characteristics in the field of NFP. Even though he was raised up in Accra the capital city of the country; his junior & senior high schools was in Central and Volta regions respectively. He is a good standing member of Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA), Ghana and yet to become a full chartered accountant. With the world gradually turning into modern age of computer, he holds a diploma in Microsoft Office Application.

He has had many encounters with children in his capacity as a junior high school teacher after his senior high education. Teaching has been his passion and would always love to teach kids because of his affection for children especially the underprivileged in society. “Helping to improve the world in a constructive way has always been his words”; that is the main reason why he accepts this position to plan and co-ordinate the programs of the organization that would gradually have a positive effect on the globe.

SAMANTHA MARIE STURM (PROJECT RELATIONS OFFICER)

She was born and still resides in the United States of America, in the State of Illinois. She is a graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology, and a minor in Communication Studies. She enjoys traveling to other countries to experience their cultural beliefs and norms. She has volunteered in the Dominican Republic and Ghana. She traveled to Ghana in the fall of 2008 through Global-Cultural Solution and was immersed in the Ghanaian culture; and a warm welcome by everyone she came in contact with cannot be described. She participated in farming activities, but her main focus was teaching in a local village. She taught grades K1- 6 in Math, English, Grammar and Science.

Her role in partnership with this organization is to promote its mission and programs to others, educate them on what it stands for and the impact volunteering will have on their lives and the lives of others. She would love to answer any questions future volunteers might have. She is a strong advocate of not-for-profit organizations whose mission is to help and develop underprivileged individuals and their communities. She tries to follow these words… “Be the change you wish to see in the world” - Ghandi

JACOB OLSON (VOLUNTEER OFFICER)

Jacob grew up in the state of Wisconsin (United States). He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, earning a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish. He enjoys learning about different cultures as he has traveled to several countries including Guatemala, Argentina, Colombia and most recently, Ghana (spring of 2009).

Although he plans to do something in the field of Law Enforcement, he will continue to help the needy in any way possible. He also hopes to establish a school in the town of Kpetoe, Ghana where the kids are clearly in need of a better environment to pursue their education.

Jacob’s role with GCS is to also answer questions and help volunteers plan for a service experience in Ghana. Also, he will help connect other groups with GCS, in order to achieve project goals.
